Awnings are designed to protect people from the heat of the sun, aren’t they?…
So why can the air temperature, sometimes, reach such a high level under the canvas cover?
Why can it be so hot, sometimes, under an awning, in the summer time?
Why?
This is because the awning prevents the direct solar radiations from heating the people, but it does not protect from the hot air that is most often present under the awning… as anywhere else!…
Therefore the question is: How could we cool down the air under the awning?
Why not?
Why couldn’t we use the physical property of the water, called the “latent heat”, that is so intense when the water migrates from the liquid state to the gas state? Misting water allows this!
The misting technology already exists , but it is reserved to professional applications: Tiny drops of water must be sprayed into the air in order to evaporate very fast and, so doing, absorb large amounts of calories. These sprays are produced by heavy-duty, powerful, expensive and cumbersome pumps which are incompatible with the place available under an awning and over the window lintels, but also incompatible with the price a private home owner can pay.
The Invention
Why couldn’t we use smaller and more affordable pumps?… High pressure pumps produced in very large quantities as these used the home appliance industry, appeared to be the best solution.
And because they are not bigger than a can of Coke, they can fit in a compact housing that can, then, be placed between the awning and the lintel.
Once the concept is validated (function, cost, standards, norms, etc…) a patent is requested by the inventor and a prototype is built to demonstrate the project feasibility: Product structure, and electronic monitoring as specific software are designed at the same time.
The first test showed a drastic instant drop of 8°C, in the Riviera summer air temperature of 31°C, only 10 minutes after the product was started.
Cool!….
Yes, indeed, very cool!
